Alignment Communications is a communication method that helps generate the highest possible return on foundation dollars and grantee efforts by using strategic-but-simple steps to uncover hidden opportunities.

Our theory behind Alignment Communications is simple: To improve, you have to identify the specific communication problems that are getting in your way. After all, you can't solve a problem until you identify and isolate it. Then, the fix is usually pretty easy! The Alignment Communications approach for foundations is a simple, systematic way of enhancing communications with grantees and donors by identifying the 7 most common communication problems, as seen in this chart.

Every foundation in the world is different from every other foundation. A good consultant begins his work with that recognition -- that every
foundation requires a unique approach. Much of my work
supports smaller philanthropic foundations and their grantees, including the smallest of

nonprofit organizations. The

work I do tends to fall into two categories:

1. Helping your foundation enhance communications with grantees, so that you get more of the grant applications you want, and fewer misguided applications that you have to reject. The result: a more competitive pool of qualified grant applications for you to choose from. This is the only way you can assure that your foundation is doing the utmost with every dollar it makes in grants.

2. Helping your grantees become more self-sufficient so that they can do a better job at community outreach. Often I work with nonprofits that have received foundation grants to help them use PR and outreach strategies in order to increase their profile to support fundraising; promote programs; recruit strong boards and volunteers; and assure their economic sustainability. This work can be delivered by me working with one agency, or through workshop or webinar training to ALL of your grantees!

I am not a theoretical tweed-jacket-with-elbow-patches consultant. I am a blue-color consultant -- I work for a living! This makes me a very good fit for smaller foundations in small communities, and for working with even the smallest of your nonprofit grantees. Because this is my core specialty -- working with nonprofits that have little or no experience or budget -- I can help small nonprofits make a big impact. My ideas are street-smart tactics that any nonprofit can handle, regardless of their experience, budget -- or lack thereof!

That's pretty much it! If you are looking for a consultant who is knowledgeable about the sector; deeply experienced; creative; and results oriented; then perhaps we should talk! I am also affordable; I do a needs assessment and give you a flat-rate fee for your project, so there are no surprises, scope-creep, or extra hours you didn't budget for. You (or your grantees) don't pay by the hour; it's up to me to understand your needs well enough to give you a firm cost quote.

Pretty straightforward!

So if you would like to enhance your communications with grantees in order to generate more of the applications you want and fewer of the ones that are not a good fit, I can help! Likewise, if you are looking for a consultant to provide practical technical assistance to your grantees in marketing, PR and outreach, that's me!
