Do you have a communications
plan? Is it current? Is it working? What research would be relevant?
What is the board's role in supporting the organization's branding and
PR? How does effective communication affect fundraising? This workshop
enables board members and Executive Directors to consider the right
questions and options to move your organization in the direction you
want.
Your Executive Director and staff can’t
do it alone. Effective organizations build strong brands with strategic
leadership from their board members.
The board’s strategic role in marketing and
branding is to support the executive director by providing a strategic
approach to:
o
Raising awareness
o
Attracting members
o
Creating a receptive market for
fundraising
o
Promoting programs
o
Stretching the dollars
“Board Basics” is a one-hour workshop for
board members and CEOs/Executive Directors.
This customized workshop is
designed for CEOs and busy board members who are passionate about their
organization and want to do all they can to help their organization gain
recognition and build awareness. Doing so helps promote programs,
enhances fundraising, and attracts members and donors. In fact, the way
your organization communicates affects virtually every aspect of your
nonprofit organization.
HOW THE “BOARD BASICS” WORKSHOP
WORKS
Because we know that board
members’ time is a precious asset to your organization, the “Board
Basics” workshop is compressed to one hour so that you can conduct it as
a part of one of your regularly scheduled board meetings. It can also be
delivered in an expanded version for board retreats.
Prior to the meeting with the
board, ideally one week ahead of time, the workshop facilitator will
meet with the CEO and/or the board president for a 90-minute
organizational briefing. This will allow him to better understand your
organization’s current position and form a tailored needs assessment.
The workshop to your full board
is driven by our Organizational Readiness Assessment tool. The workshop
facilitator will go through the Assessment with the board to identify
specific action steps that you can take immediately to strengthen your
organization’s communications. Within an hour, you’ll have a plan that
will produce immediate payback to your organization.
Best of all, most of the steps
cost nothing to implement, other than the Board’s commitment to take the
action.
In addition, each member of the
board will receive an electronic copy of the 150-page publication,
“Communications Handbook for Nonprofits and Foundations,” a strategic
guide to nonprofit marketing.
COST: $900
Includes:
90-minute organizational
briefing with your CEO and/or board president prior to the workshop.
Board Basics workshop delivered to your full board of directors.
Development of a concise written plan based on the strategies and
recommendations that result from the organizational briefing and
workshop delivered within 10 business days.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Steve Cebalt supports executives
and board members of Indiana nonprofits with workshops and training to
help organizations do more of their own PR, marketing, advertising and
communications on a do-it-yourself basis.
His training philosophy is based
on a simple premise: With very little effort, board leaders can have a
profound influence on their organization’s ability to raise funds, raise
awareness, attract members, and promote programs. His workshops provide
boards with the guidance to ask the right questions and establish
effective strategies at the board level in order to assure that the
organization is doing all it can to maximize its marketing capacity.
He oversees Highview Help, LLC,
in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to offer the big-time PR strategies used by the
largest organizations to nonprofits and the foundations that support
them. He is the founder and host of the Northeast Indiana Nonprofit
Marketing Leadership Roundtable and is author of "The Nonprofit PR
Forum" and "The Communications Handbook for Nonprofits and Foundations."
